Daily Group Itinerary Suggestions:

Day 1 - Wednesday - Zurich Airport / Lucerne

Arrive from the U.S. into Zurich International Airport where a private motor coach is waiting to take the group on the 1+ hour drive to Lucerne. Upon arrival and prior to hotel checkin, the luggage will be dropped off at the Walderstatterhof Hotel and the group’s guide will conduct a 90 minute introductory city walking tour. After the tour, the rest of the day is free for individual sightseeing until the guide returns to take them to a local restaurant for a welcome dinner. (B,D).

Day 2 - Thursday - Lucerne

Due to “jet lag”, you will probably wake up earlier than you would like. Normally, this is not a good thing, but today, it is the best possible outcome because just before dawn people from all over the greater Lucerne area are quietly sneaking into the city. And when the cannon sounds, the party begins. This day is filled with lots of music, colorful parades, people in elaborate costumes, local food, drink and good clean fun that is meant to be enjoyed by the entire family. No group activities are planned today and everyone is invited to join in. Breakfast is served at the hotel with lunch and dinner on your own. (B)

Day 3 - Friday - Lucerne / Mt. Rigi / Lucerne

Breakfast is served in the hotel with the morning free to attend the carnival. Around 12:00 Noon, your private guide arrives at the hotel to lead the group across the street to the pier next to the train station for a ship excursion on Lake Lucerne. The boat takes the group to the town of Vitznau where you board a cogwheel train to ascend to Mt. Rigi (around 6,000 feet). There will be time to have a drink at the restaurant or to walk around the top of the mountain, weather permitting. Afterwards, everyone returns by cogwheel train and cable car to the town of Weggis before heading back to Lucerne by motor coach. (B)

Day 4 - Saturday - Lucerne

Breakfast is served at the hotel and the full day is at leisure. For those who wish to get outside the city, there are many options for daytrips by train to places, like Zurich, Berne or Basel. All of which are within 65-75 minutes maximum each way by train. Skiing is also an option to nearby Engelberg, or you can do what many Swiss people from Lucerne do and take the lake steamer ship to one of the cogwheel trains that will take you up to the slopes. Another train could take you to Interlaken, although, this train trip will be a bit longer. In the evening, the group has a dinner planned at the Stadtkellar Restaurant in the “old town” where there is also a show put on by local music groups celebrating Carnival. (B,D)

Day 5 - Sunday - Lucerne

Breakfast is served at the hotel and there is another full day at leisure. You may want to attend various Carnival parades and events in the city, or do some exploring on your own. (B)

Day 6 - Monday - Lucerne / Lugano / Lucerne

As there are no Carnival festivities planned today, it is a good day for a road trip. After breakfast at the hotel, a motor coach and guide are ready to take the group down to the beautiful southern Switzerland city of Lugano which is located in the beautiful Italian region of the country. Part of the sightseeing will also involve some time in northern Italy where you will visit Lake Como. A group lunch of pizza will be served at a local restaurant. There will be some free time to enjoy the scenery before heading back again to Lucerne through the heart of the Swiss Alps. (B,L)

Day 7 - Tuesday - Lucerne / Zurich Airport

After breakfast at the hotel and according to flight schedule, it is time to get back on the motor coach with your guide for the short drive to the Zurich Airport and the flight back home. (B)
